UNESCO heritage - Stari Grad Plain

 

Stari Grad Plain (the Ager or the Chora)  listed on UNESCO cultural landscape that has remained practically intact since it was first colonized by Ionian Greeks from Paros in the 4th century BC. The original agricultural activity of this fertile plain, mainly centering on grapes and olives, has been maintained since Greek times to the present. The site is also a natural reserve. The landscape features ancient stone walls and trims, or small stone shelters, and bears testimony to the ancient geometrical system of land division used by the ancient Greeks, the chora which has remained virtually intact over 24 centuries.

 Island of Hvar is known as the sunniest island in Europe, with four UNESCO heritages, the world's top naturist beach, and a quality wine tradition dating back some 2400 years, Hvar also boasts the oldest public theater in Europe and claims the origins of organized tourism in Europe with the founding of the Hvar Health Society in 1868.

 

Renaissance palace of PetarHektorovic

 

Petar Hektorović’s Tvrdalj (1487 – 1572) with a fish-pond and a dove-cot over it, is the most famous building in Stari Grad. This renaissance poet built it throughout his entire life and it had the same importance for him as his literary work.

Lavender fields

 

Hvar is a lavender island.

The best month to enjoy lavender fragrance is June or July.

Anyhow, you can bring home the lavender flower in little bags or lavender oil in little bottles.

At our place you can find a variety of local ecologically made products : olive oil, red and white wine, herbal brandy made with plants from the island, sherry, lavender oil and lavender flower.
